AbstractIntroduction: E-learning is the current educational approach in reputed international universities. In line with the new technologies, universities tend to provide distance and semi-distance education and they are engaged in e-learning through launching websites. We aimed to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate core websites of virtual universities of the world based on the quality evaluation tool. Material & Methods: In this descriptive qualitative and quantitative study, 27 websites have been studied using the website quality evaluation tool during August 2012. Cronbach's alpha was 0.92. SPSS software, version 16, was used for data analyses. Results: The specific purpose for the data range in all websites was very good. Also the users and goals of websites and structure stability were in a good condition. On the other left ease of search facilities, internal links and graphics were in an average condition. The virtual universities of Ebilin, Vanderbilt, and E-Learning Center of Tehran University ranked first to third. Conclusion: The findings of this study can be used by university website managers to improve the quality of the related websites.

AbstractIntroduction: Communication and information technology has become one of the basic components of the modern society within a short time. Currently, understanding communication and information technology skills and concepts has been considered as part of the core education modalities in such societies. We aimed to identify the main factors for the application of technology in the process of school education using factor analysis.Material and Methods: In this descriptive survey, all 3381 teachers in Babol during academic year 1390-91 were recruited. 380 teachers were selected using the Krejcie and Morgan's table based on the stratified sampling method according to each academic term. To review the teachers' attitude in using technology in education, the Persian form of the attitude scale questionnaire regarding the application of technology in education was used. Factor analysis was used for data analysis. Results: Teachers use technology for twelve main factors the main factor is to prevent the waste of time. Conclusion: Information technology training in the teaching process plays an important role in enhancing the teachers' knowledge and functionality in using information technology.

AbstractIntroduction: Currently, users do not only need access to information, but also need speed and ease of access to information. Therefore, the use of information and communication technologies has rapidly increased. E-books are sources of information that can easily be provided to people increasing their tendency to study. We aimed to investigate the role of using e-books on the tendency to study.Material & Methods: In this survey, we enrolled all high school students in Mazandaran province, north Iran during the academic year 2011-2012 (n= 92, 411). Of these, 384 students were randomly selected using cluster sampling. The sample size was determined using the Kerjecie and Morgan table. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire consisting of 30 questions with a reliability of 0.91. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Distant access, ease of transfer with respect to content integrity, multimedia support, content integrity and diverse applicability, intermediate content exchange, ease of use and implementation affected the students’ tendency to use e-books.Conclusions: Using e-books affects the students’ tendency to study.

AbstractIntroduction: Currently, distance education has been accepted as a necessary part of the mainstream educational system throughout the globe. We aimed to compare the distance learning system with the traditional educational system with respect to the students’ academic achievement in secondary schools of Shiraz, southern Iran.Material & Methods: Using random cluster sampling, we included all third grade students studying in schools of educational district two in Shiraz during the academic year 2010-2011. The students’ grade point averages of the fifth primary grade and third secondary grade serve as pre- and post-tests, respectively. The differences between pre-test and post-test scores were calculated. The mean scores were compared using the t test. Results: Compared with the traditional education system, distance education was more effective for both boys and girls. However, the difference was not significant. Conclusion: Distance education is a modern educational method which can create new learning opportunities and replace the traditional educational system.

AbstractIntroduction: Nowadays, the Internet has created a virtual world and become an incentive for universities to invest in e-learning. And in order to accomplish this, they attempt to both use and evaluate e-learning systems. We aimed to identify and rank the components for measuring the success of universities using the fuzzy network analysis approach.Material and Methods: This applicable descriptive survey was done on the users of e-learning systems in the University of Sistan and Baluchestan as well as experts in the field of e-learning. Data were collected using related questionnaires. The reliability of questionnaire was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha for each factor separately as well as for the whole questionnaire. The total reliability coefficient of questions was 0.959. The single sample t test and fuzzy network analysis techniques were used to analyze data. Results: Components of information quality, service quality, system quality, supporting factors, teacher characteristics, student characteristics, and environmental factors are effective in the success of e-learning systems. Moreover, information quality with the relative weight of 0.23 and environmental factors with the relative weight of 0.05 have the maximum and minimum effect, respectively. Conclusions: Focus on data quality and educational content, providing suitable and faster services and infrastructure facilities for e-learning systems can improve e-learning systems in universities.

AbstractComputer-based education and information and communication technology (ICT) have widened new horizons for experts and specialists in training to think of methods and approaches in education that transforms the learning process. Multimedia environments in which information is converted into moving images, sounds, photographs, graphics, and texts have changed the learning process qualitatively and fundamentally. Animation is one of the most interesting visual phenomena which can provide learners with scientific facts descriptively or in the form of imaginative stories. Teaching complex and abstract concepts can be facilitated by creating scenarios and selecting influential characters in an educational animation. Currently, there is a variety of software that produces two- and three-dimensional animations and web-based instructions. In order to learn easier and faster, animation affects visual and auditory senses and is consequently desirable for learners. Researchers, inspired by learning theories, can develop theoretical foundations and appropriate strategies for increasing the capabilities and abilities of animations in the teaching and learning process. In order to provide and produce effective and helpful educational animations, it is necessary to investigate the stages of designing, implementing, and evaluating educational animations. In this essay, the concept of educational animation and its specific features, related studies and teaching and learning theories are investigated.
