A Review of the Status of Information Literacy Standards among the Employees of Dehloran Education Department

Abstract

Introduction: This research was carried out aiming at studying information literacy standards among the employees of Dehloran education department so as to focus the attention of educational planners on the necessity of expanding information-seeking skills and information literacy among the employees of education department. Effective indicators were studied to provide appropriate suggestions regarding their influence.Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytical research is a survey investigation. The statistical population consists of all employees (permanent, contractual) of Dehloran education department in 2012-2013. From the total 2200 employees, 221 male and 106 female employees were selected by stratified sampling method. Questionnaire was used to gather information. The questionnaire was developed based on the standards of the American Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). Inferential statistics was used to analyze data, and variance analysis and independent t test were used to test hypotheses.Results: The obtained results indicate that the employees of Dehloran education department are not in favorable condition concerning information literacy standards. Also information literacy standards differ among male and female employees.Conclusion: Practical suggestions for this research include holding on-job training courses to raise knowledge and enhance information literacy standards of employees, allowing special privileges for passing these courses, and establishing job promotion system on the basis of gaining educational and research skills.
